Nineteen car brands have already signed up to the Security-related Repair and Maintenance Information (SERMI) scheme, within days of its approval in the UK.
SERMI, which goes live here on 1 April, provides independent garages with the opportunity to source essential security information such as key and ECU coding directly from vehicle manufacturers.
The brands signed up so far are those in the Stellantis group (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks and Vauxhall), as well as Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota.
"To have 19 on board within days of notifying them of UK approval shows just how important SERMI is to the future of our sector," said Stuart James, chief executive of the Independent Garage Association.
